YULE CUP TRADITIONS
Yule Cup:
Started in 1984, the Yule
Cup Challenge has been a long-standing tradition in Region II. In addition to hosting teams from across the
United States, it has hosted teams from many countries-England, Germany,
Czechoslovakia, New Zealand, Japan, and our faithful friends from Australia and
Canada. Every year proves to be a
spectacular show of what makes our sport so enjoyable.
Once only a Level 9/10 award, the Yule Cup has been
expanded to include Levels 7, 8, and Canadian Novice. Teams made of 2-3 gymnasts compete for the
cups, the winners being the team with the highest all-around score of two of
the gymnasts on the team.
The cup has been won by many teams. If a team wins the cup three years in a row,
they are allowed to keep the cup permanently.
Teri Bruce Dance Award:
Teri
Bruce was the Northwest’s first national team member and she kept that position
for eight years, in both individual and group competition. In honor of her high standard of performance
in dance and rhythmic gymnastics, an award has been created in her honor. The judges vote for the gymnast who they
think demonstrates excellence in her dance skills among the Level 9/10 Junior
and Senior competitors.
Teri set a precedent in rhythmic gymnastics by executing
a high standard of dance excellence in all of her rhythmic routines. She also maintained an A average throughout
high school and college, during which she was also competing. Ms. Bruce currently lives on the east coast,
working for a public relations firm.
